Everton came from behind to earn a draw at Anfield thanks to Rooney’s first Merseyside derby goal.
Liverpool were in control of the match from the start and were rewarded when a brilliant solo effort from Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock.
After overpowering two defending Salah curled a shot into the top left corner just before the break to give Liverpool a much needed boost.
The match was set for a draw when 15 minutes before time a sublime Wayne Rooney cross towards Dominic Calvert earned Everton a penalty. Calvert was pushed by Dejan Lovren who reacted furiously to the decision.
Wayne Rooney took the penalty shooting straight down the middle with the keep diving to the right. Everton managed to hold off late pressure to secure a surprising draw at Anfield.
The result leaves Liverpool in 4th place and Everton return to the top ten.
