What the future of New York Fashion Week holds

Published

on

CFDA: Preview of Runway360. Launches in September 2020.

Each September, the fashion industry begins a new chapter. During these past few months, we have witnessed how the lockdown has been lifted around the world. However, how have these new measures affected the upcoming New York Fashion Week?

Every year, NYFW opens the new season showing the new collections for the following year. However, this year is going to be different. A few months ago we saw how different designers showcased their collections online.

Houses such as Chanel, Dior, or Gucci, among others, have decided to reveal their Cruise 2021 collection virtually while others, like Jacquemus, decided to reveal its new collection with a physical runway where the brand’s VIP clients were able to discover what the designer had prepared for this new season.

However, due to the current situation, the CFDA (The Council of Fashion Designers of America) has decided to create an online platform for designers to showcase their new collections regardless of whether it is Fashion Week or not.

NYFW: Brandon Maxwell SS2020 as seen in September 2019 during fashion week

Under the name Runway360, the tool will allow designers who do not want to take part in the original runway to showcase their new collections anytime. The launch of this platform will coincide with the physical fashion week, which will be held from September 14 through September 16.

Both Runway360 and NYFW will work similarly since for each collection a time slot and appointment must be selected, the only difference is that the tool has unlimited access to each show. This initiative will allow designers to present their collection and safely interact with their customers since the presentation of the collection, press conference, and showroom will be held virtually.

In a few weeks, we will be able to enjoy Runway360 and the start of fashion week. In the meantime, we can only ask ourselves a question: how the fashion industry is going to survive without physical runways?

How to Add style with face masks

Published

Matching Colour’s

This is perhaps the easiest and popular way, and well, you don’t have to put much of an effort into it. Perhaps the most important concept when it comes to design, especially outfit design, is matching colours. One of the easiest way is to look and adopt a look based on neutral colours, and this is mostly because they go with any other colour such as brown, black, white or navy. You can also use contrast in your outfit if you are not a fan of neutrals or simply want something different that day. To be on the safe side, just look at the colour wheel and play with opposites.

Mask Sets

If you didn’t know it yet, there are face masks that come with matching accessories, yes, they give us a little push and help us ad some style and keep our outfits under control.  They come in basic colours or they have matching patterns, great especially for those who usually adopt an all black look. Some have even ties and pocket squares that match, which let’s face it, save many of us a lot of time.

Get creative

And this doesn’t necessarily have to be complicated, not at all. There are plenty of YouTube videos, TikTok’s and Reels on Instagram with others that already tried and got successful combos for their outfits. This being said, you can get inspired and plan your own outfit much easier. You can also watch videos on how to make your own masks, a few easy steps that change the mask from being a mandatory burden to an actual accessory.

 Support Local Businesses

And this should be a no brainer giving the amount of creative individuals here in the UK. Plenty of fashion students, independent artist and small boutiques decided to give a hand and splash some colour on these unpredicted and dark times we are facing. Therefore, a mask is not a mask anymore, it can have a story and most importantly, it plays a major role in protecting others or helping the emerging artists by purchasing from them. Most of them advertise through social media, and some post as well short clips showing the process of making such a mask.

Savage x Fenty show is coming this October

Published

on

After the debut of her first show during NYFW 2019, Rihanna is launching a brand new show this October 2. Like last year, Savage x Fenty will be partnering with Amazon Prime Video to showcase the show. Under the name “Savage, not sorry”, the new line of the singer’s brand will be one of the most talked-about shows of the season.

Instagram post

On September 18, Rihanna launched in her Instagram account @badgalriri a teaser of what we can expect for this show. In her casting list we can find names we can recognize from her previous cast. Bella Hadid, Cara Delevigne, or Normani will make their return to the show. New models and celebrities will join them: Paris Hilton, Irina Shaik, Demi Moore, Lizzo, or Willow Smith, and more, will hit the runway this October. The show will also feature music from Travis Scott, Rosalia, Bad Bunny, Miguel, Ella Mai, Mustard, and Roddy Rich.

Instagram Post

Last year, Rihanna launched her first show at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn. As this year, she chose to cast singers, dancers, performers and celebrities for the presentation. The variety of sizes, skin colour and heights is what makes the brand so special. Last year, Victoria’s Secret show was cancelled due to the criticism of the beauty ideals the brand has. Instead of seeing the “usual angels” hitting the runway last fall, Savage x Fenty created an inclusive and empowering show were all types of bodies and shapes are welcome.

Instagram Post

This second volume is expected to be one of a kind and be one of the most talked-about shows. Following the coronavirus guidelines, we are waiting to see what Rihanna has prepared for this year. Over the years, we have been able to see how different brands have created more inclusive cast, but none of them are close to reaching what Savage x Fenty has. The singer has created a brand of her own where empowering women to feel sexy in their own skin has been the main purpose. This is what makes fashion beautiful, be able to feel good in the garments we are wearing without thinking about sizes or weight.

The show will be available for Prime Video subscribers worldwide on October 2.

Fashion ideas for a chic autumn look

Published

on

(Photo: Asos)

With autumn now upon us it is a good time to plan your seasonal wardrobe with soft warm colours and elegant minimal tones. And you don’t have to spend a fortune on clothing for a classy look. Here we show you some tips on how to get a polished and classy look using neutral tones and minimalist styles.

1. All Black

The iconic little black dress must be the best example. Black is classy, elegant and a great advantage is that most people already own a few pieces in their wardrobes. Another bonus is that black doesn’t show easily the type of materials your pieces are made of so it will great no matter what the fabrics used. Go for something silky and fluid, accessorising with some gold details. You can’t go wrong with this.

Try this stunning mini dress in black from ASOS features a round neck design with short sleeves and a cinched waist. This regular fit dress features a zip-back fastening. The standard cut for a classic shape gives a chic understated look.

Brand: ASOS
Sizes: UK 4-18
Price: £28.00 with free delivery & returns.

2. Neutrals

Keeping it tonal but neutral is perhaps the easiest way to get an expensive look. Kim Kardashian was and continues to be the queen of neutrals and for good reason. Plainclothes in general look classier and definitely need to be a part of your wardrobe. A camel blazer and some white trousers with some gold or silver details will easily do the trick.

Try this chic tall trench coat in stone from Asos for a classic autumn/winter casual look. Pairs beautifully with black trousers or jeans with a light top for an effortless casual chic style perfect for any occasion.

Brand:ASOS
Sizes: UK 4-18
Price: £48.00 with free delivery & returns.

3. Oversized Shirt

And the secret to this is to have a slightly oversized one. White or stripped, an oversized shirt can be tied, used as a jacket, or tucked in. Roll up your sleeves and match it with some neutrals and you are ready to go! It’s a classic and must have for a reason.

This gorgeous oversized shirt in white from brand COLLUSION is a perfect fit for a laid back casual look. Pairs with trousers, skirt or jeans for a stunning minimalist look. This relaxed and roomy throw on and go shirt features a spread collar and long sleeves.

Brand: COLLUSION
Sizes: UK 4-18
Price: £20.00 with free delivery & returns.

4. Neutrals & Black

And don’t be afraid to experiment! You can get creative and match them as you please while keeping it basic and classy. You can get a black and white outfit as well, or you can mix camel with black and white and get some gold details such as a bracelet or a belt. There are endless possibilities and you will always look impeccable.
