Fox has released a new set of release dates for some of its biggest blockbusters. According to The Hollywood Reporter November 2, 2018 and February 14, 2019 have been earmarked for two upcoming Marvel films.
December 21, 2018 is the release date for an upcoming film from James Cameron’s production company Lightstorm Entertainment which is a certainty to be the Avatar sequel.
In the original Avatar paraplegic Marine Jake Sully decides to take his place in a mission on the distant world of Pandora. There he learns of greedy corporate figurehead Parker Selfridge’s intentions of driving off the native humanoid “Na’vi” in order to mine for the precious material scattered throughout their rich woodland.
In exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs, Jake gathers intel for the cooperating military unit spearheaded by gung-ho Colonel Quaritch, while simultaneously attempting to infiltrate the Na’vi people with the use of an “avatar” identity.
While Jake begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful alien Neytiri, the restless Colonel moves forward with his ruthless extermination tactics, forcing the soldier to take a stand – and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora.
The movie grossed an incredible $2.78 Billion making it the highest-grossing movie of All-time. However the domestic record it held of $760 million was beaten Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) which overtook it’s domestic record with a whopping $936 million at the US box office.
It is also Director James Cameron’s biggest release, beating his own movie Titanic (1997) which had held the All-time box office record for 12 years with a gross of $2.18 Billion.
Avatar two was originally slated for a 2017 release-date, but was pushed back for late 2018 with more sequels announced for 2020, 2022 and 2023.
